SAME NAME

Have you ever had to bear the same first name and surname with a close person?

Some time ago, my cousin’s baggage was forgotten in a cab and when it was announced on radio, many people called in to show concern, while some called to ask why I was so careless…some gave me to time to explain that it was another me, not me me and that we just shared the same name….others didn’t care to listen.

Few years ago, another cousin

IF MOM SAYS...IF MOM ASKS....

I have grown up to realise certain things about my mom, whenever she makes a statement, I don't just agree or respond, I have to think deeply, sometimes she would say something and mean the other, especially to me. Here is what I am talking about;

If mom says, 'The dress is okay but I wouldn't wear it if I were u'
It means 'go and pull it, gurl'.
If mom says, 'Try and see if u can sweep this kitchen'
I don't need to try, I just get a broom.
When mom says, 'Does the post office open on mondays?'
It means 'Girl, u gotta post a letter for me'

If mom says, 'Should we have breakfast this morning?'
That ain't no question, I just start cooking immediately.
If mom says, 'Do u need my advice?'
Yes or no. I am still gonna get it, anyway.
If mom asks, 'where are you?'
You have either stayed out too late or are about to run errand for her.
If mom asks, 'can you run an errand for me?'
Yes or no, you are definitely gonna run that errand.
If mom says, 'oh, the kitchen looks dirty, I will clean it up when I am back'.
You better get to work and clean it up because you may not like what she will do when she gets back.
If mom says, 'the sand from your car can build a skyscraper'.
Though it is an exaggeration, babe, it is time to clean your car interior.
If mom says, 'that plate of food should have been for a whole nation'.
It means, I have eaten more than I am supposed to.
If she comes home to see dirty dishes, she will say, 'looks like you hosted a Country here'.
Don't let her tell you to get work, before you do.
If mom says, 'take two steps to my friend's house, I need you to get something for me'
Grab the car keys, we could be talking about miles here.
If mom says.....

A SISTER'S LOVE

My SISTER,

The one who always laughs when I set a trap for someone and fall right into it.

Who scolds me when I make the wrong decisions and corrects me,

Who cries with me when I cry,

Who teases me and makes me laugh even after she gets me upset over little things,

Who would rather get into trouble with me, than let me walk into it, provided I am innocent,

Who doesn’t consider my taking her stuff without permission as stealing,

Who always pokes me to say the truth even when I am about to lie,

Who always has my back when I care less about my safety,

Who has taught me how to deal with the boys who break my heart,

Who has taught me that Jesus is the only way,

Who prays for me even when I forget to pray for myself,

Who has taught me to stand up to my fears,

Who has let me know that gospel music is so good for the soul,

Whose toes I can step on and she’ll just smile ‘cause she is taller than I am,

Who has taught me never to feel less about myself,

Who feels my pain even when my friends hardly notice,

Who has taught me that hardwork is the key,

To a sister who has always been there for me,

Through the good times and the bad times.

She is truly a SISTER indeed.
