Sometimes, someone can run...other times, the person can run and run and run. That was my condition on Friday.
I walked out of the laboratory building to meet Nafiu, he said he had some things he wanted to do in the mall before coming back to join the bus home or use the train.
"I need to check my bank at the mall", he told me.
"Oh, okay...I will come with you. We still have more than 30 minutes and I am sure we will meet the bus".
"if you say so...because I doubt. Let's hope I will be attended to, on time".
I checked my watch, it said 3.05pm and the bus would not come until 3.45pm, I agreed to go with him and we both left for the mall. The mall is a 30-minute walk to-and-from school, we decided to brisk-walk so we could use 20 minutes max for our to-and-fro journey.
I wore a skirt which was so unlike me on a cold day...the whole thigh-rubbing and marching through the freezing weather was like fire and ice. I wore a heel shoe...you remember the shoe in my last post? Yes! #moneycannotwaste I had to wear that shoe to the fullest.
We arrived the mall at 3.15pm to meet a queue at the bank...we were attended to few minutes after, we began to make our way back to school at 3.26pm and I quickly grabbed what I wanted to buy on the way.
In my mind, we had 19 minutes so we could afford to walk normally...at the same time I thought, it was peak period, the bus could get filled up, so we continued to brisk-walk, almost running.
"We won't make the bus", Nafiu said.
"Don't kill my faith, this is 3.33pm, we are close already", I replied him.
"It's because of you I came back here if not I could have used the train"
"Dear Lord, don't let him discourage me...hold traffic, delay the bus", I prayed out loud.
Nafiu laughed.
It was 3.36pm and we were still brisk-walking, the bus doesn't come till 3.45pm and I can sight the bus from here, I thought.
Suddenly, the bus pulled up.
"Whattttt???? The bus is already here? It doesn't come till 3.45..." I shouted in shock and began to jog as we were 2 minutes away from the bus.
"See this girl! The bus comes at 3.35, not 3.45", Nafiu was already running.
"Chai! Chineke God", I began to hop-run in the heel shoes, with my backpack and two Clinical medicine textbooks in it, swinging behind me, I ran and ran and ran...I tried.
Maybe the way I ran was funny...I overheard some ladies...let me qualify that, "Nigerian ladies" laughing...I didn't know what they were laughing about, I didn't care because my eyes were on the bus. I guessed it was about the way I ran, imagine a hopping ball...okay, bring your mind back. Ehenh!
Then I heard amidst the laughter, one of them said, "this is how you run when you about to miss Molue in Lagos". Those who understood were all laughing.
Molue Bus Rush |
I learnt a lot from this alone...I am glad I didn't stop believing I could meet the bus...yeah! Nafiu got on the bus before me.
I hope you have had a great weekend...
